Description of Coffee
A sensational single origin, anaerobic shade dried natural from the El Carmen and Don Hector Leal in Acatenango, Guatemala. H3 is the varietal and we roast medium-light - this keeps the nice cherry-like acidity and matches that with the almond-led nuttiness - the mouthfeel on this is very full.
Brings a full, balanced and delicious cup of coffee - really works well as espresso, but brings out quite a few layers of complexity as a filter as well.

Farm and Producer Details
Farm and Producer Details
In the 1930’s, Finca La Colina, in Acatenango, owned by don Mateo Mejia, was one of the largest coffee producing farms in the Acatenango valley. Having had cattle in its early days, the farm was also one of the only ones who could process their own production, as it had both a wet and dry mill. By the 1950’s, don Mateo Mejia’s son, Jose, took control of the property as he inherited it and started striving for excellence, culminating in the attainment of numerous national prices for cup quality. Juan Jose Mejia, son of Jose and grandson of don Mateo, took the reins of the farm when his father passed away in 1980, inheriting his part of the land which he named El Carmen. Focusing ever more on quality, planting new varietals such as yellow Catuai, Tekisik, and Gesha, Juan Jose and Finca El Carmen were awarded numerous times at national competitions in recognition for its outstanding cup quality. In the early 2010’s, don Hector Leal acquires El Carmen from Juan Jose, and continues with his vision to produce some of the best quality coffee in the country, starting the process of completely replanting the farm with new varietals which include Ethiopian Dwarf, Pink Bourbon, and Chiroso, to name a few.
Javier from Caribbean Goods was fortunate to meet Maris Leal and Daniel Skineer-Klee. Maris is the granddaughter of Don Hector Leal and currently manages the farm with her husband, Daniel. Their collaboration appears seamless, and their dedication to exceptional quality is evident. Maris has also judged coffees at ANACAFE (The Guatemalan Coffee Association), and together with Daniel, they have three lovely children.
