Description of Coffee
A sensational single origin, anoxic (anaerobic) natural from the La Batea farm and Villamaría Group in Colombia. Castillo, Colombia and Caturra are the varietals and we roast light-medium to keep some the fruitiness and origin present. This uses anoxic (anaerobic) processing methods via a 'water pillow' - you can find out more information on this technique via Raw Material's video here.
Brings a fruity, complex and delicious cup of coffee - delightful as a filter coffee or other brewing methods too if you like fruitiness in your coffee.

Home to 20 members of the Red Association Villamaría, La Batea is a sub-region of the area of the same name, located twenty minutes by car from the buying station Finca La Aurora.
The topography of Villamaría is challenging to put it mildly, as it comprises steep hills and valleys that have been affected by volcanic activity in the not so distant past. This area of Caldas is afforded a unique scenario, with several microclimates sitting side by side across this region.
La Batea means the valley in English and is an area of Villamaría where its incredibly steep hills provide a unique microclimate. Here, cold air currents swoop down from the snowy mountains of Santa Isabel and Volcan Nevado del Ruiz, improving air quality, circulation, and pollination, whilst cooling the air temperature that surrounds the growing cherries!

RawMaterial Coffee
About RawMaterial Coffee
In Colombia, we raise quality and shelf-life through low-cost interventions within existing structures. We do this by creating systems to ensure consistency of large lots at a community level. This in turn enables reliable, stable and improved household incomes for smallholder farmers through connection with roasters.
Our secondary focus is to shift the power dynamic in the coffee sector; as specialty becomes a norm, there are new opportunities for women to gain higher-income and higher-powered roles. The third area of focus is environmental; Colombia has a high average output per hectare, but this comes at the costs associated with mono-cropping and high-input farming techniques.
By working with Raw Material, producers have a sustainable reason to invest in quality.
To improve household incomes, outcomes for women, and to encourage a shift towards more environmentally sustainable farming practices, in Colombia we:
- Set up cupping labs, and focus training towards women in the community
- Build and join community associations, invest in infrastructure and training to improve quality, and take their coffee to market.
- Place QC staff and equipment at parchment buying points to improve consistency.
- Consult wet mill operators and producers in-person on best practices.
- Purchase for consistent prices based on what coffee costs to produce and what roasters are willing to pay to maximise profitability for producers.
